If you open a second Visio file, it is opened in the same application window of your current Visio. If you close the appication window ignoring the warning (because you think it is for the second file) you lose your changes for the last two days. (Yes anyone who works for two days without saving his changes deserves to lose them, but there where extenuating circumstances :-(
You can find the different shapes under File-> Stencils menu option. They are not under the Shape or View menu options.
